EU AI Act Article 50: a practical transparency checklist before release.
Article 50 transparency obligations apply from 2 August 2026. Use this checklist to identify the operational questions your AI product team should resolve before go-live.
1. Direct AI interaction
- Does a natural person interact directly with the AI system?
- Is it obvious to a reasonable person that the interaction is with AI?
- If disclosure is required, is it visible at the right point in the interaction rather than buried in legal text?
2. AI-generated or manipulated content
- Does the system generate or manipulate audio, images, video or text?
- Have you evaluated machine-readable marking and detection requirements?
- Can you produce evidence showing how the marking method was tested?
3. Deepfakes and public-interest content
- Could generated or manipulated media appear authentic?
- Does the workflow publish AI-generated text about matters of public interest?
- Is there documented human review or editorial control where relevant?
- Are exemption decisions evidence-backed rather than assumed?
4. Evidence and ownership
- Have you identified whether you are acting as provider, deployer, or both?
- Is there an owner for each transparency control?
- Are disclosure screenshots, sample marked outputs, tests and approvals version-controlled?
- Is there a release decision: READY / READY WITH CONDITIONS / BLOCKED?
